Player Progression
Your players get better by playing. In Arena, that happens in your development matches.
The short version
- Your first 2 matches each day are development matches. Every player who takes part earns XP.
- The more minutes a player gets, the more XP he earns. The score and your opponent don't change it.
- Players grow toward their hidden potential. Young players grow fastest.
Development Matches
Each day, the first 2 matches you start are development matches. The counter resets at midnight UTC (01:00 CET), and the play screen shows how many you have left.
You can keep playing after that: later matches still count for the ladder, the Season Pass and your challenges, they just don't give your players XP. A forfeited match gives no XP and doesn't use up a development match.
How Players Grow
In a development match, XP depends on how long a player is on the pitch. Starters earn the most, substitutes earn for the minutes they play, and even an unused substitute gets a little.
XP turns into attribute points, mostly in the ones that matter for his position. As his attributes rise, so does his OVR. How far and how fast he goes depends on his hidden potential and his age: young players grow fastest, and growth slows as a player gets older and better.
New Arena players get a head start: their first level-up comes quickly.
Boosts
Boosts are different from growth:
- Training boosts from the trial are permanent: +1 to one attribute.
- OVR and attribute boosts from the Store and the Season Pass are temporary: they last 15 Arena matches, up to +3 OVR on one player.

Boosts give a player an edge for 15 Arena matches
